Collection: Yamato Indigo

Yamato Indigo was developed by Aikuma Senryo, founded in 1818 in Tokyo, Japan where the company quickly established its dyeing expertise. In the 1870s, when indigo dye was both expensive and in peak demand, the company developed its own method for extracting pigments from old indigo-dyed fabric. This method eventually led Aikuma Senryo to developing a unique synthetic indigo. Today, it mixes natural indigo with its proprietary synthetic to produce dye powders that are easier to use, long-lasting, and of course, yield that signature, joy-sparking blue.
