Founded in San Jose, California by Gijiu Kitazawa, a former apprentice at a seed company in Japan, Kitazawa Seed Company has been in business since 1917 – the oldest seed company in America specializing in Asian vegetables. The company’s signature seed packets – manila envelopes with green ink – are the same as they were 100 years ago. With a special emphasis on heirloom varietals native to Japan, Kitazawa does not buy, sell or trade genetically engineered seeds or plants.
