Founded in 1832, Nagatani-en is a celebrated maker of rugged yet refined earthenware products in the Japanese city of Iga. The family-run company is best known for its Igá-Monó donabes – handmade ceramic cookware. The unique clay of the region – once at the bottom of Lake Biwa – results in pottery that offers superior heat retention for even and fragrant cooking. This oven-to-table pot has a removable grate for steaming meat, vegetables and more.
With regular love and use, cracks may
spread throughout the donabe's interior glaze. This natural occurrence is called kannyu and does not affect performance. For best results, use the donabe over a direct flame – do not use on an induction or electric stovetop.
Due to its fragile nature, this item is final sale.
