Traditional Uchiwa Paper Fan with Bamboo Handle
$44.00
In the Kumamoto Prefecture of Japan, the workshop of Kurikawa Shoten upholds a technique of paper fan making that’s been practiced since the 1600s. Crafted from handmade Japanese paper with a bamboo handle, each fan is coated with persimmon tannin for strength and durability – over time, the tannin deepens to a rich, saturated hue. Traditionally used to fan cooking charcoal or cool steamed rice, this delicate-seeming fan is excellent for shooing away unwelcome insects.
