A hallmark of Japanese design is the effortless union of form and function – and a tenugui is a perfect example. A multi-purpose cotton cloth used to dry hands and dishes, wrap bento boxes, serve as a napkin, be worn as an accessory or morph into a protective face mask, tenuguis are beautiful, one-of-a-kind everyday workhorses. Made using a traditional hand-dyeing technique unique to Japan – chusen – tenugui are known for their playful, distinctive prints and patterns, which often reference elements in nature. However you choose to use them, they add an element of joy to daily life.

Care & Use Instructions

To allow the dye to set, hand wash for the first several washes; machine wash after that.

Please Note

The ends of a tenugui are always left unhemmed – slight fraying is to be expected. Trim long threads that appear at the beginning of use to create a fringed edge that will not unravel.
